Continuing Education Requirements
For AIA Membership:
The American Institute of Architects' Continuing Education System (CES) emphasizes learning that was developed by and for the AIA which records professional learning as a mandatory requirement for architect membership. Lifelong professional learning is necessary for success in business. It enables the architect to keep current, master new knowledge and skills, plan for the future, and responsibly meet the role society entrusts to a professional.
The AIA/CES assists architects in maintaining their competence and in achieving their professional goals. In doing so, it has the potential to be one of the primary forces in the improvement and revitalization of the profession.
All active AIA members must successfully complete 18 Learning Unit Hours (LUHs) each year, ensuring that at least 8 of the 18 LUHs are Health, Safety and Welfare (HSW) related. Associate, allied, and emeritus members are exempt, but are encouraged to participate for their own benefit and for that of the profession.
Please visit the AIA/CES Website
for additional resources and contact the AIA or the Texas Society of Architects if you need assistance.
